DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS

For your convenience and security, you can unlock the outside door to grant access to your guests using a door release system installed in your building. Guests may call you from the visitor telephone located beside each outside door to advise you they are waiting outside. Depressing the "lock release" button located in your living room will momentarily unlock the outside door so your guest(s) can enter.

For your personal safety, never open the stairwell door for someone you don't know.

ELECTRONIC SECURITY

Your building is equipped with an electronic security system which consists of card readers and prop monitors. Cards readers read the magnetic stripe on your student identification card to grant access to residents, staff, and authorized others. Prop monitors sense whether exterior doors and interior security doors are closed and latched securely, and sound horns to notify residents and staff if they are not. In most cases, closing the door will silence the horn. Some special application locks and horns must be reset by a staff member.

HEAT

Your heat/air conditioning is provided by an air handler heating/cooling system. A thermostat located in a common area of your apartment will both tell you the current temperature within the apartment and allow you to regulate the temperature. Just below the thermostat is an Energy Conservation Button. Each morning at around 8:30 AM the system shuts off; anytime after that, you must depress the button to re-activate the system.

Within some apartments, this system is supplemented with a fan coil unit located under each window. There is a little door on the unit that you push open to access the fan controls. In addition, some units have a thermostat knob which needs to be switched from air conditioning to heat. Please note that once the entire building is converted from air conditioning to heat and vice versa, the fan coil unit will only provide heat when the thermostat is set at heat; otherwise, it will simply circulate the air in the room.
